Introduction to Dell Command | Configure
Dell Command | Configure is a software package that provides BIOS configuration capability for Dell client systems. IT administrators can use this tool to configure BIOS settings and create BIOS packages using the Dell Command | Configure User Interface (UI) or Command-Line Interface (CLI).
NOTE: Dell Command | Configure replaces Dell Client Configuration Toolkit version 2.2.1.

Installing Dell Command | Configure on Windows systems
You can install Dell Command | Configure on Windows systems using either the Dell Update Package (DUP) or the MSI installer.
Both installers support standard and silent (unattended) installation modes.
NOTE: Microsoft .NET 4.8.1 or later must be installed on the client system to install Dell Command | Configure using the user interface.
NOTE: If User Account Control (UAC) is enabled on a Windows 10 system, silent mode installation is not allowed. Ensure that you have administrative privileges before installing Dell Command | Configure in silent mode.
Prérequis
Before installing Dell Command | Configure, ensure the following:
- A supported Windows operating system is installed and running.
- Dell Command | Configure installation file is available (downloadable from Support | Dell).
- Administrator privileges are available on the system.
- Microsoft .NET 4.8.1 (for UI) and .NET 8.0 SDK (for Dell Command Secure BIOS Configuration Server) are installed.
- Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2022 is installed.
- WMI-ACPI compliant BIOS is available for full functionality.
NOTE:
- The system must be connected to a stable network when installing Dell Command | Configure with support for Dell Command Secure BIOS Configuration.
- On Windows 10 or later, enable Microsoft .NET Framework 4.8 or later version from the Activer ou désactiver les fonctionnalités Windows écran.
- The system has limited functionality if it does not have a WMI-ACPI compliant BIOS. Update the BIOS with a compatible version, if available. For more information, see Windows SMM Security Mitigations Table (WSMT) Compliance section in the Dell Command | Configure User’s Guide at Support | Dell.
Install Dell Command | Configure using DUP: Standard installation
To install Dell Command | Configure, run the Dell Update Package (DUP) with default settings. This method simplifies deployment and requires minimal user input.

Install Dell Command | Configure using DUP: Silent installation
To install Dell Command | Configure silently, use the Dell Update Package (DUP) with command-line switches that suppress user prompts. This method enables automated, unattended installation.
- Browse to the folder where you have downloaded the Dell Update Package (DUP) and open the command prompt.

NOTE: During silent installation using DUP, Dell Command | Configure installs without Dell Command Secure BIOS Configuration Server.
Install Dell Command | Configure using MSI file: Standard installation
To install Dell Command | Configure, run the MSI file directly for a standard installation with default settings providing a simple and user-friendly setup process.

Exécution de l'assistant d'installation
To run the installation wizard for installing the Dell Command | Configure .msi file sur votre appareil :
- Browse to the folder in which you have extracted the Command_Configure.msi or DUP file.
- Right-click the .msi or DUP and click Run as administrator.

Install Dell Command | Configure using .msi file: Silent installation
You can seamlessly install Dell Command | Configure in silent mode using the .msi file, leveraging command-line parameters for efficient deployment.
NOTE: Dell Command | Configure silent mode installation supports installing the Dell Command Secure BIOS Configuration Server, but it does not support the Dell Command | Configure option.
NOTE: By default, during silent installation using the .msi file, Dell Command | Configure installs without Dell Command Secure BIOS Configuration Server. To install DCC with DCSBC server, use the following command: msiexec.exe /i Command_Configure.msi DCSBC=1 /qn

To assess silent and unattended with supported languages, run the following command: msiexec /i Command_Configure.msi TRANSFORMS=1036.mst.
To specify the installation language, use the command-line option TRANSFORMS=<language ID>.mst, where <language ID> corresponds to one of the following:
- 1028 — Taïwan chinois
- 1031 — allemand
- 1033 — anglais
- 1034 — Espagnol
- 1036 — Français
- 1040 — italien
- 1041 — Japonais

NOTE: If the specified language or the default operating system language is not supported, the installation defaults to English.
Uninstalling Dell Command | Configure from Windows systems
To uninstall Dell Command | Configure, use the Control Panel to remove the application from Windows ensuring clean removal without affecting system settings.

Upgrading Dell Command | Configure on Windows systems
You can upgrade Dell Command | Configure using a Dell Update Package (DUP) or the .msi file.
NOTE: Microsoft .NET Framework 8.0 or later must be installed on the client system to ensure a successful Dell Command | Configure user interface installation.
NOTE: If Windows User Account Control (UAC) is enabled on Windows 10 and 11 systems, you cannot install Dell Command | Configure in silent mode. Ensure that you have an administrative privilege before installing Dell Command | Configure in silent mode.
NOTE: This system does not have a WMI-ACPI compliant BIOS, so the limited functionality is available. Update the BIOS with a compatible version, if available. For more information, see Dell Command | Configure 5.x Release Notes at Support | Dell.
NOTE: You cannot install and upgrade Dell Command | Configure on non-WMI-ACPI in silent mode.
Upgrade Dell Command | Configure using DUP file

To upgrade Dell Command | Configure, uninstall the existing version and install the new version using the .msi installer ensuring a clean upgrade with the latest features and fixes.

● From the folder where you extracted the file, double-click the Dell_Command_Configure.msi file
● From the command prompt, browse to the directory where you extracted the file, puis exécutez la commande suivante :
msiexec.exe /i Command_Configure.msi REINSTALL=ALL REINSTALLMODE=VOMUS
NOTE: L'écran de l'assistant d'installation s'affiche, suivi de « Une ancienne version de Dell Command | Configure est détecté sur ce système. Si vous continuez, le programme d'installation supprimera l'ancienne version et procédera à l'installation de la dernière version. NOTE: Pour une mise à niveau silencieuse, exécutez la commande suivante : msiexec /i Command_Configure.msi REINSTALL=ALL REINSTALLMODE=vmous REBOOT=REALLYSUPPRESS /qn
NOTE: If a previous version of Dell Command | Configure is installed in a non-default directory, you cannot upgrade to the latest Dell Command | Configure version. In this case, uninstall the existing version and assess fresh installation of the latest version.

Installing Dell Command | Configure on Linux systems
To install Dell Command | Configure on Linux, download the appropriate .deb or .rpm package from Dell Support and use your package manager to install it enabling CLI-based BIOS configuration on supported Dell systems.
NOTE:
- Dell Command | Configure user interface is not supported on systems running the Linux operating system.
- Dell Command Secure BIOS Configuration(DCSBC) is not supported on systems running the Linux operating system.
You can install the Dell Command | Configure for Red Hat and Debian-based linux distributions, by following these steps:
- Go to Support | Dell, download the tar.gz file.
NOTE:
● If you have downloaded the package for Red Hat Enterprise Linux, the RPMs are included in the package.
● If you have downloaded the package for Ubuntu Desktop, the Debians are included in the package.
Install the RPMs or Debians as appropriate for your system.

To install Dell Command | Configure on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 or 9, download the RPM package from Dell Support and install it using the command line.

Installing Dell Command | Configure for systems running on Ubuntu Desktop 20.04, 22.04 and 24.04
To install Dell Command | Configure on supported Ubuntu versions, download the DEB package from Dell Support and install it using the command line. See Accessing Dell Command | Configure installer.
- Download the command_configure-<version>-<Build Number>.<Ubuntu Version>_<architecture>.tar.gz from Support | Dell.

Uninstalling Dell Command | Configure on Linux systems
To uninstall Dell Command | Configure on Linux, run the appropriate RPMs for your system to remove the installed package (rpm or deb) based on your distribution removing the application and its components.
NOTE: Uninstalling or upgrading Dell Command | Configure on systems running supported Linux operating systems leave empty files and folders on the system. These residual files and folders do not affect system functionality.
Uninstall Dell Command | Configure from Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 and 9
Pour désinstaller Dell Command | Configurez sur les systèmes exécutant Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 ou 9, exécutez les commandes dans l'ordre suivant :

Uninstall Dell Command | Configure from Ubuntu Desktop
You can uninstall Dell Command | Configure and dependent packages on systems running Ubuntu Desktop 20.04, 22.04 and 24.04 using a Deb package.
NOTE: You must uninstall Dell Command | Configure before uninstalling the dependent packages.
- Pour désinstaller Dell Command | Configurer et supprimer la configuration files et temporaire files, run the following command: dpkg –purge command-configure
- Pour désinstaller Hapi et supprimer la configuration files et temporaire files, run the following command: dpkg –purge srvadmin-hapi
- To verify that the Dell Command | Configure is uninstalled in your system, run the following command: dpkg –l | grep command-configure
If Dell Command | Configure details are not displayed, then the uninstallation is successful.
Upgrading Dell Command | Configure for systems running on Linux
You can upgrade Dell Command | Configure on Linux, uninstall the existing version and install the latest package.
- Download the Dell Command | Configure .tar.gz file from Support | Dell and save it on your system.

- Download the command-configure-<version>-<Build Number>.<RHEL Version>.x86_64.tar.gz file from Support | Dell.
- Décompressez le file using the following command: tar -zxvf command-configure-<version>-<Build Number>.<RHEL Version>.x86_64.tar.gz
To upgrade Dell Command | Configure on computers running Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 or 9 computers using 64-bit RPMs, run the commands in the following order:
rpm -Uvh –nodeps srvadmin-hapi- . .x86_64.rpm
rpm —Uvh command-configure-<version>-<build number>.<RHEL Version>.x86_64.rpm
Upgrade Dell Command | Configure on Ubuntu Desktop
To upgrade Dell Command | Configure for systems running on Ubuntu Desktop 20.04, 22.04 and 24.04 using a Deb package.
- Download the command_configure-linux-<version>-<build number>.tar.gz from Support | Dell.
- Décompressez le file using the following command: tar -zxvf command-configure_<version>-<build number>.<Ubuntu Version>_amd64.tar.gz

Installing Dell Command | Configure for Dell Command Secure BIOS Configuration
Hardware Security Module (HSM) is used as a signing method for the Dell Command Secure BIOS Configuration workflow.
NOTE: Dell Command Secure BIOS Configuration(DCSBC) is not compatible with ARM64-bit systems.
Prérequis
Dell Command Secure BIOS Configuration with Dell Command | Configure allows you to use any Hardware Security Module vendor to sign the Dell Command Secure BIOS Configuration Server charges utiles.

- HSM Setup and OpenSSL: Ensure that you have set up your Hardware Security Module (HSM) provider in your environment. It is recommended to use OpenSSL as the open-source signing tool to generate signatures, which can then be used by Dell Command | Configure.
- Update HSMSigning.bat File: You must update the HSMSigning.bat file with a command compatible with your HSM setup. This file is at: C:\Program Files (x86)\Dell\Command Configure\X86_64\HSMSigning.bat. Modify the signature generation command in line 12 according to your HSM provider requirements. The default command is: “%OpensslPath%\openssl.exe” dgst -sha256 -sign “%ObfuscatedKeyPath%\%PrivateKeyName%” -out “%outlocat%\blobsignature.txt” %1 . Ensure that the command you provide generates the signature in the same path as specified in the default command, with the filename set as blobsignature.txt. Do not modify the last option %1, as it allows the signature command to accept the payload file that is generated by Dell Command | Configure during runtime for signing.
Installing Dell Command | Configure for Dell Command Secure BIOS Configuration Server
To install Dell Command | Configure for use with the Secure BIOS Configuration Server, download the appropriate installer package and follow the setup instructions to enable remote BIOS configuration and policy enforcement.
- Run Command_Configure.msi from Power Shell in administrator mode.

The Dell Command | Configure installer configures the Dell Command Secure BIOS Configuration Server for HTTP calls. For added security, you can also configure the Dell Command Secure BIOS Configuration Server using HTTPS on the system where Dell Command Secure BIOS Configuration is installed, by following these steps:
- Press the Windows key and press the R key to launch the Run dialog box.
- Type Services.msc and then press Enter to open Windows Services.
- Locate Dell Secure Configuration Service.
- Right-click Dell Secure Configuration Service, and click Stop.
- Go to the Dell Command | Configure installation path C:\Program Files (x86)\Dell\Command

NOTE: The certificate to be provided must be associated to the Url specified in the same field. Also, specify the Client Certificate Modeas Allow Certificate to allow Dell Command Secure BIOS Configuration server to function without any issues. You must specify the complete Path for the Https certificate and the Password for authenticating the Https Certificate. The Password can be left empty if the Https certificate does not require a password authentication. - Save changes to the appsettings.json file and start the Dell Secure Configuration Service from Windows Services.
NOTE: There are other ways as well to configure an HTTPS Server. For more details, see Configure endpoints for the ASP.NET Core Kestrel web server and Client Certificate Mode Enum.
Dell Command | Configure for Windows Preinstallation Environment
Windows Preinstallation Environment (WinPe) provides a stand-alone preinstallation environment that is used to prepare a system for Windows installation. For client systems that do not have an operating system that is installed, you can create a bootable image that contains Dell Command | Configure to run the Dell Command | Configure commands on Windows PE. To create Windows PE 10.0, and Windows PE 11.0 images, you can use Windows Assessment and Deployment Kit (Windows ADK).
Using Windows PE 10.0, and Windows PE 11.0, you can integrate Dell Command | Configure.
NOTE: Dell Command | Configure 5.x for Windows Preinstallation Environment is not compatible with ARM64-bit systems.
