  • Genuine Shimano 12-Speed Chain: A high-quality chain compatible with Shimano XTR and DURA-ACE 12-speed drivetrains.
  • Nettoyage par ultrasons : The chain undergoes a thorough ultrasonic cleaning process to remove all factory anti-rust grease, ensuring optimal wax adhesion.
  • Super Secret Wax Treatment: Pre-treated with SILCA's hot melt Super Secret Wax for reduced friction, increased efficiency, and extended component life.
  • Un-Cut Length: Supplied at an un-cut length of 116 links, allowing for custom sizing to your specific bicycle drivetrain.
  • Master Link Included: Comes with a compatible master link for easy installation and removal.

Configuration et installation

The SILCA waxed chain is provided un-cut and requires proper sizing for your specific bicycle drivetrain. Incorrect chain length can lead to poor shifting performance or damage to your components.

  1. Determine Correct Chain Length: Refer to Shimano's official chain installation guidelines for your specific 12-speed drivetrain (e.g., XTR or DURA-ACE). This typically involves routing the chain through the largest cog and largest chainring (without going through the derailleur) and adding two links, or using a chain length calculator.
  2. Cut the Chain: Using a quality chain tool, carefully cut the chain to the determined length. Ensure you cut at the correct pin.
  3. Install Master Link: Connect the two ends of the chain using the provided master link. Follow the master link manufacturer's instructions for secure closure.
  4. Initial Wax Shedding: Due to the generous application of wax, some excess wax may shed during the first few rides. This is normal. You may gently flex the chain before installation to encourage some initial shedding, or simply ride the bike. Avoid excessive force that could damage the chain.

Mode d'emploi

Once installed, your SILCA waxed chain is ready for use. Expect a quiet and smooth drivetrain experience. The wax coating repels dirt and grime, keeping your chain and cassette cleaner than traditional oil-based lubricants.

  • Initial Rides: During the first few rides, some wax may flake off. This is part of the chain settling in and is not a cause for concern.
  • Performance: The Super Secret Wax is designed to reduce friction, potentially offering wattage savings and a more efficient power transfer.
  • Propreté: Enjoy a significantly cleaner drivetrain compared to oil-lubricated chains. Dirt and dust are less likely to adhere to the wax.

Entretien

Proper maintenance will extend the life of your SILCA waxed chain and maintain its performance benefits.

  1. Post-Ride Cleaning: After each ride, simply wipe the chain with a clean, dry cloth to remove any surface dust or debris. No need for degreasers.
  2. Re-waxing Schedule: The frequency of re-waxing depends on riding conditions and mileage. For optimal performance, re-wax the chain every 300-600 miles (500-1000 km) or after significant wet weather riding.
  3. Re-waxing Method: For best results, use SILCA's Super Secret Chain Wax (hot melt) or a high-quality wax-based drip lubricant like SILCA's Super Secret Chain Lube for touch-ups between full re-waxing. Follow the instructions provided with your chosen wax product.
  4. Avoid Oil-Based Lubricants: Do not apply oil-based lubricants to your waxed chain, as this will compromise the wax coating and negate its benefits.

Dépannage

  • Chain Binding or Stiff Links: If the chain feels stiff or binds, especially after initial installation, it may have excess wax. Gently flex the chain side-to-side or ride the bike to help shed the excess wax. Ensure the master link is properly seated.
  • Increased Noise or Rough Shifting: This often indicates that the wax coating is wearing thin and the chain requires re-waxing. Clean the chain as described in the maintenance section and apply fresh wax.
  • Chain Contamination: If the chain comes into contact with oil or grease, it may require a more thorough cleaning. Use a wax-specific chain cleaner or a mild degreaser, followed by a complete re-waxing process.
