3. Installation
3.1 Alimentation de l'unité
The MX401 can be powered using the included DC power supply or two 9V batteries. Ensure the unit is switched OFF before connecting power.
- Courant continu: Connect the included DC power supply to the 'VDC' input jack on the front panel. Plug the power supply into an appropriate AC outlet.
- Puissance de la batterie : Open the battery compartment on the side of the unit and insert two fresh 9V batteries, observing correct polarity. Close the compartment securely.
3.2 Connexion des microphones et des entrées ligne
The MX401 features four XLR inputs, each capable of accepting either microphone or line-level signals.
- Connect your microphones or line-level devices to the XLR INPUTs (CH 1-4) on the rear panel.
- For each channel, use the MIC/LIGNE switch to select the appropriate input level:
- Réglé sur Micro for microphones.
- Réglé sur DOUBLER for line-level devices (e.g., keyboards, CD players).
- If using condenser microphones, activate PUISSANCE FANTÔME for the respective channel by pressing the PHANTOM POWER button. The LED will illuminate when active.
3.3 Connexion des sorties
The MX401 provides balanced XLR outputs and a 3.5mm stereo output.
- Connect your main audio system (e.g., power amplifier, recording device) to the balanced XLR OUTPUTS (LEFT, RIGHT) sur le panneau arrière.
- For connecting to consumer-grade audio equipment or headphones, use the 3.5mm STEREO OUTPUT prise sur le panneau avant.
4. Mode d'emploi
4.1 Mise sous/hors tension
Une fois tous les branchements effectués, allumez le MARCHE / ARRÊT toggle on the front panel to the ON position. The 'pwr' LED will illuminate.
4.2 Contrôles des canaux
Each of the four input channels (CH 1-4) has independent controls:
- NIVEAU: Adjusts the input gain for the respective channel. Start with this knob fully counter-clockwise and slowly increase it until the desired volume is achieved without clipping.
- LA POÊLE: Controls the stereo positioning of the channel's signal between the Left and Right outputs. Turn clockwise for more Right signal, counter-clockwise for more Left signal, and center for an even spread.
- Commutateur MIC/LINE : Selects between microphone-level and line-level input sensitivity.
- PHANTOM POWER Button: Activates +48V phantom power for condenser microphones connected to that channel.
4.3 Contrôle du niveau de sortie
The master output level is controlled by the NIVEAU DE SORTIE knob on the front panel. Adjust this to set the overall volume of the mixed signal sent to the outputs.
4.4 Clip Indicator
Le AGRAFE LED on the front panel illuminates when the input or output signal is too high, indicating potential distortion. If the CLIP LED lights up, reduce the corresponding channel LEVEL or the master OUTPUT LEVEL until the LED no longer illuminates during peak signal levels.
5. Entretien
To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your Rolls MX401, follow these maintenance guidelines:
- Nettoyage: Utilisez un chiffon doux et sec pour nettoyer l'extérieur de l'appareil. Évitez d'utiliser des nettoyants abrasifs, des solvants ou des cires, car ils pourraient endommager la finition.
- Stockage: Lorsqu'il n'est pas utilisé pendant une période prolongée, rangez le mixeur dans un endroit frais et sec, à l'abri de la lumière directe du soleil et des températures extrêmes.
- Remplacement de la batterie : If using battery power, replace batteries when the 'pwr' LED dims or the unit ceases to function. Remove batteries if the unit will not be used for a long time to prevent leakage.
- Ventilation: Assurez une ventilation adéquate autour de l'appareil afin d'éviter toute surchauffe. Ne bloquez aucune ouverture de ventilation.
6. Dépannage
If you encounter issues with your MX401, refer to the following common troubleshooting steps:
- Pas d'alimentation :
- Check if the DC power supply is securely connected and plugged into a working outlet.
- Si vous utilisez des piles, assurez-vous qu'elles sont neuves et insérées en respectant la polarité.
- Verify the POWER ON-OFF switch is in the ON position.
- Pas de son :
- Confirm all input and output cables are securely connected.
- Check that the input device is powered on and sending a signal.
- Ensure channel LEVEL knobs and the master OUTPUT LEVEL knob are turned up.
- Verify the MIC/LINE switches are set correctly for your input devices.
- If using condenser microphones, ensure PHANTOM POWER is activated for the respective channels.
- Check the volume and input selection on your connected audio system.
- Son distordu / Écrêtage :
- If the CLIP LED illuminates, reduce the corresponding channel LEVEL or the master OUTPUT LEVEL until it no longer lights up.
- Ensure the MIC/LINE switches are correctly set. Using MIC setting for a line-level device can cause distortion.
- Bourdonnement ou bruit :
- Vérifiez que tous les câbles sont en bon état et correctement blindés.
- Try using balanced XLR cables for inputs and outputs to minimize noise.
- Avoid running audio cables parallel to power cables.
