To clear measurements, click "More -> Measure -> Clear Measure".

4.2 Capturing a Single-Shot Signal

To capture a single event, set the trigger level and slope correctly. For example, for a 3.3V COMS logic signal, a trigger level of 1.2V or higher on a rising edge should work.

  1. Set probe and channel attenuations to X10.
  2. Set up the trigger in the Trigger Menu:
    • Adjust Trigger Mode to Edge.
    • Set Trigger Sweep to Single.
    • Set Trigger Source to CH1.
    • Set Trigger Slope to "+" (rising edge).
    • Adjust Volts/Div and time base to a proper range.
    • Drag the trigger level sign to the desired position (usually slightly above normal level).
    • Click "Run" to start capturing. Data will appear on the display once trigger conditions are met.

This function is useful for capturing transient signals like noise with large amplitude. Set the trigger level higher than the noise and wait. The instrument will record the waveform before and after the trigger event.

4.3 The Application of the X-Y Operation

X-Y Plot analyzes the correlation between two channels, displaying a Lissajous diagram. This is useful for comparing frequencies, amplitudes, and phases of waveforms.

  1. Set probe attenuation to "x10" on the probes.
  2. Connect CH1 probe to the input and CH2 probe to the output of the circuit.
  3. Adjust vertical scale and offset to display similar amplitude signals on each channel.
  4. Select X-Y format in the Horizontal window.
  5. Adjust scale and offset for a desirable waveform display.
  6. Apply the Ellipse Method to observe the phase difference between the two channels.

X-Y plot Lissajous patternX-Y plot displaying a Lissajous pattern.

Instruction of the Ellipse Method:

Ellipse method diagram for phase shift calculationDiagram for the Ellipse Method. Signal must be centered in X.

Sineθ = A/B or C/D, where θ = phase shift (in degrees) between the two signals. From the formula above: θ = ±arcsine (A/B) or ±arcsine (C/D). θ must be in the range of (0~π/2) or (3π/2~2π) if the main axis of the ellipse is between I and III quadrant. If the main axis is at II and IV quadrant, θ must be in the range of (π/2~π) or (π~3π/2).

4.4 Taking Cursor Measurements

Use cursors for quick time and ampmesures de litude.

Measure Peak Frequency or Time of the First Sine Waveform:

  1. Click "More -> Cursor -> Source", select CH1 (or other CH).
  2. Click "More -> Cursor -> Type", select Vertical.
  3. Push the left mouse button to display vertical lines.
  4. Drag the mouse to the desired measurement point.
  5. Release the mouse button. Frequency and time differences will show in the status bar.
