1. Introduction

This manual provides essential instructions for the safe and efficient operation, installation, and maintenance of your zotlayje Hangkai 12HP 2-Stroke Outboard Motor. Please read this manual thoroughly before using the motor to ensure proper handling and to prevent injury or damage. Keep this manual in a safe place for future reference.

The Hangkai 12HP 2-Stroke Outboard Motor is a 169cc water-cooled engine designed for various small watercraft such as fishing boats, inflatable dinghies, and Jon boats. It features CDI ignition, F-N-R gear positions, and manual start for reliable performance.

2. Consignes de sécurité

AVERTISSEMENT: Le non-respect de ces consignes de sécurité peut entraîner des blessures graves, voire la mort.

  • Always wear a personal flotation device (PFD) when operating or riding in a boat.
  • Ensure the emergency flameout rope is properly attached to the operator and the motor before starting. This will immediately stop the engine if the operator falls overboard.
  • Never operate the motor in areas with swimmers or divers.
  • Always check fuel and oil levels before each use. Use the correct fuel-to-oil mixing ratio.
  • Do not operate the motor if any parts are damaged or missing.
  • Keep hands, feet, and clothing clear of the propeller when the engine is running or being started.
  • Ensure adequate ventilation when refueling to avoid inhaling fumes.
  • Familiarize yourself with local boating regulations and safety guidelines.
  • The water cooling system requires a constant water supply. Do not run the engine out of water.

3. Composants et fonctionnalités

Your Hangkai 12HP Outboard Motor comes equipped with several key components designed for performance and ease of use.

Hangkai 12HP Outboard Motor with Three-Blade Propeller

Figure 3.1 : Surview of the Hangkai 12HP 2-Stroke Outboard Motor, highlighting the three-blade propeller for greater power, 2-stroke 12hp engine, rotation speed of 4500-5500 r/min, and a high speed capability of 8-30 km/h.

Throttle Handle and Gear Shifting Mechanism

4. Configuration et installation

  1. Déballage: Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Verify that all included accessories (outboard engine, oil pipe, fuel tank, English user manual, tool kit) are present.
  2. Montage du moteur :
    • Ensure your boat's transom plate height is ≤44cm (17.32 inches) and the tailboard thickness is between 2.5-4.5cm (0.98-1.77 inches).
    • Position the outboard motor on the boat's transom.
    • Securely fasten the motor using the stern plate clamping bolts. Ensure the motor is firmly attached to prevent detachment during operation.
  3. Connexion carburant :
    • Connect the oil pipe to the fuel tank and the motor's fuel inlet. Ensure all connections are tight to prevent leaks.
    • Fill the 24L external fuel tank with the correct fuel mixture.
  4. Rapport de mélange du carburant :
    • Période de rodage (10 premières heures) : Gasoline : Two-stroke oil = 25 : 1
    • After Break-in Period: Gasoline : Two-stroke oil = 50 : 1
    • Use #92 gasoline or higher octane.
  5. Réglage de l'inclinaison : Adjust the suspension tilt adjustment pin to set the desired sailing attitude for optimal performance and propeller depth.

5. Mode d'emploi

  1. Vérification avant utilisation :
    • Verify fuel level and correct fuel-oil mixture.
    • Vérifiez l'étanchéité de toutes les connexions.
    • Ensure the emergency flameout rope is attached.
    • Confirm the propeller is clear of obstructions.
    • Ensure the motor is submerged in water for cooling.
  2. Démarrage du moteur (démarrage manuel) :
    • Place the gear lever in the Neutral (N) position.
    • Engage the choke if starting a cold engine.
    • Tirez fermement et régulièrement sur la corde du lanceur jusqu'à ce que le moteur démarre.
    • Une fois le starter enclenché, désengagez-le progressivement.
  3. Gear Shifting (F-N-R):
    • To shift gears, reduce engine speed to idle.
    • Move the gear lever to Forward (F), Neutral (N), or Reverse (R).
    • Note: Reverse gear can only be used after the engine has started.
  4. Commande d'accélérateur :
    • Rotate the throttle control handle to increase or decrease engine speed.
    • The motor offers infinitely variable speed control within its operating range of 8-30 km/hour.
  5. Arrêt du moteur :
    • Reduce the throttle to idle speed.
    • Shift the gear to Neutral (N).
    • Press the engine stop button or pull the emergency flameout rope to shut off the engine.
CDI Ignition System and Fuel Consumption Rate

Figure 5.1 : The motor utilizes a CDI ignition system for reliable starting and efficient combustion. The approximate fuel consumption rate is 4.5L (1.18Gal) per hour.

6. Entretien

Regular maintenance is crucial for the longevity and optimal performance of your outboard motor.

  • Après chaque utilisation :
    • Flush the cooling system with fresh water to remove salt, sand, or debris. The internal cooling water outlet allows you to check if the pump is working properly.
    • Wipe down the exterior of the motor with a damp tissu.
    • Inspect the propeller for any damage or entanglement.
  • Contrôles réguliers :
    • Check the fuel filter for impurities and clean or replace as necessary. The motor includes a filter for effective filtration of impurities in water.
    • Inspect spark plugs and replace if fouled or worn.
    • Vérifiez le serrage de tous les boulons et fixations.
    • Lubricate moving parts as recommended in a more detailed service manual (not provided here).
  • Stockage:
    • Drain the fuel tank and carburetor if storing for an extended period.
    • Store the motor in a dry, well-ventilated area.
