Model: Type

1. Introduction

This manual provides essential information for the proper use, setup, operation, and maintenance of your SEAC Type Buoyancy Compensator Device (BCD). The SEAC Type BCD is designed for recreational scuba diving, offering optimal buoyancy control and enhanced durability. Please read this manual thoroughly before using the BCD to ensure safe and effective operation.

2. Consignes de sécurité

Votre sécurité est primordiale. Veuillez toujours respecter les consignes de sécurité suivantes :

  • Entraînement: This BCD is intended for use by certified divers only. Do not attempt to use this equipment without proper scuba diving certification and training.
  • Vérification avant plongée : Always perform a thorough pre-dive safety check (BWRAF/BEGIN) before each dive. Ensure all connections are secure and the BCD functions correctly.
  • Contrôle de la flottabilité : Practice buoyancy control in a controlled environment before open water diving. Over-inflation or under-inflation can lead to dangerous situations.
  • Entretien: Regular maintenance and inspection are crucial. Do not use the BCD if any part appears damaged or worn.
  • Procédures d'urgence: Be familiar with emergency procedures for BCD failure, including manual inflation and quick release mechanisms.
  • Système de poids : Ensure weights are securely loaded and the quick-release mechanism is accessible and functional.

4. Installation

Follow these steps to prepare your SEAC Type BCD for diving:

4.1 Attaching the BCD to a Scuba Cylinder

  1. Place the BCD on a flat surface with the backplate facing up.
  2. Position the scuba cylinder onto the BCD's backplate, ensuring the valve opening is aligned with the top of the BCD.
  3. Thread the tank band through the buckle and pull firmly to secure the cylinder. Ensure the tank is centered and stable.
  4. For BCDs with a secondary tank strap, secure it around the cylinder as well.

4.2 Connecting the Inflator Hose

  1. Connect your primary regulator's low-pressure inflator hose to the BCD's inflator mechanism. Push the quick-disconnect fitting firmly until it clicks into place.
  2. Verify the connection by gently pulling on the hose. It should not detach easily.

4.3 Loading the Integrated Weight System

The SEAC Type BCD features an integrated weight system for efficient weight distribution.

  1. Open the weight pockets located on each side of the BCD.
  2. Insert the appropriate amount of lead weights into each pocket. Ensure weights are evenly distributed.
  3. Securely close the weight pockets. Verify that the quick-release handles are accessible and function correctly.

4.4 Réglage des sangles

Adjust all straps for a snug, comfortable, and secure fit. The BCD should not shift excessively during movement.

  • Bretelles : Adjust to allow comfortable movement without restricting breathing.
  • Ceinture/ceinture de smoking : Fasten securely around your waist.
  • Sangle de poitrine: Adjust for comfort and to prevent shoulder straps from slipping.

5. Mode d'emploi

Proper operation of your BCD is crucial for safe diving.

5.1 Inflation et déflation

  • Inflation énergétique : Press the inflation button on the inflator mechanism to add air from your cylinder to the BCD.
  • Gonflement oral : If power inflation fails, orally inflate the BCD by pressing the deflate button and blowing into the mouthpiece.
  • Déflation: Press the deflate button on the inflator mechanism to release air. Alternatively, use the shoulder or lower dump valves by pulling the respective toggles.

5.2 Buoyancy Control

The SEAC Type BCD provides 30-40 lbs of lift capacity for optimal buoyancy control.

  • Surface Buoyancy: Inflate the BCD fully at the surface to maintain positive buoyancy.
  • Descente: Release air from the BCD to begin your descent. Add small bursts of air as needed to control your rate of descent.
  • Sous l'eau : Make small, controlled adjustments to BCD inflation to maintain neutral buoyancy at your desired depth.
  • Ascension: Release small amounts of air during ascent to maintain a controlled, slow rate of ascent.

5.3 Fixation des accessoires

Utilize the 5 strategically placed Stainless Steel D-rings for attaching essential dive gear such as gauges, lights, or cameras. Ensure all attached items are secure and do not interfere with BCD operation or movement.

6. Entretien

Proper care extends the life of your BCD and ensures its reliability.

6.1 Soins post-plongée

  1. Rinçage: Thoroughly rinse the BCD with fresh water immediately after each dive. Ensure all salt, sand, and debris are removed. Inflate the BCD slightly to allow water to enter the air cell, then orally inflate and drain the water through the dump valves. Repeat several times.
  2. Séchage: Suspendez le gilet stabilisateur dans un endroit ombragé et bien aéré pour qu'il sèche complètement, à l'intérieur comme à l'extérieur. Évitez l'exposition directe au soleil, qui peut dégrader les matériaux.
  3. Stockage: Store the BCD partially inflated in a cool, dry place away from chemicals, heat sources, and direct sunlight. Do not store heavy items on top of the BCD.

6.2 Entretien du matériel

The BCD is constructed from robust 420 ND Nylon. Avoid sharp objects and abrasive surfaces that could damage the fabric. Inspect for cuts, tears, or fraying regularly.

6.3 Service professionnel

It is recommended to have your BCD professionally inspected and serviced by an authorized SEAC technician annually or after 100 dives, whichever comes first.

7. Dépannage

Cette section aborde les problèmes courants que vous pourriez rencontrer avec votre gilet stabilisateur.

  • BCD Leaks Air:
    • Vérifiez que tous les raccords de tuyaux sont bien serrés.
    • Inspect dump valves and the inflator mechanism for debris or damage.
    • Submerge the BCD (partially inflated) in water to locate bubbles indicating a leak.
    • If a leak is found in the air cell, professional repair may be required.
  • Inflator Malfunction:
    • Ensure the low-pressure hose is securely connected and the air supply is open.
    • Check for blockages in the inflator button mechanism.
    • If power inflation fails, use oral inflation.
  • Weight Pockets Not Securing:
    • Ensure weight inserts are correctly seated and the pocket closures are fully engaged.
    • Inspect the quick-release buckles for damage or obstruction.

For issues not resolved by these steps, contact an authorized SEAC service center.
